How your Waymino works

Your band opens your Camino journal when you hold your phone near it. Nothing to install. Watch the video and you'll be set in two minutes.

Before you leave

Set it up at home,
not at the first albergue

That way you reach the Camino with everything ready, and your band starts helping you from day one.

  • Activate your band and choose your CaminoAdd the date you start and your journal will know where you are.
  • Check what to packYour journal has a packing list so you don't forget anything.
  • Fill in your emergency profileOptional: allergies, medication and who to call. It's only switched on if you want it.
  • Ask your loved ones to leave you a messageThey hold their phone near your band before you leave. You'll read it on the Camino.
  • Open your journal once with signalThat way it's saved on your phone and also works where there's no coverage.

Step by step

Set up your band

You only do this once. It takes a minute.

  1. 1

Hold your phone near the seal

The seal is the circle with the scallop shell. Bring the top of your phone close and wait a second.

  2. 2

    On iPhone, tap the notification

A banner saying “Open app.waymino.com” appears at the top of the screen. Tap it. On Android it opens by itself.

  3. 3

    Enter your email

Tap “Send me the code”. No password needed, now or ever.

  4. 4

    Type the six-digit code

It reaches your inbox in a few seconds. If you can't see it, check your spam or promotions folder.

  5. 5

    Your name and your Camino

Write your name as you want it to appear in your memory video and choose your route. It's yours now.

Your founder number appears on the cover of your journal and on your backpack tag.

FAQ

If something isn't working,
the answer is here.

Setting up your band

I hold my phone near it and nothing happens

Hold the top of your phone (where the camera is) right over the seal and wait a couple of seconds without moving. If you use a thick case or one with metal, take it off and try again.

On Android, check that NFC is on: Settings → Connections → NFC (or search “NFC” in Settings). On iPhone it works from the iPhone XS onwards; there's nothing to switch on.

My iPhone is older than the XS

You can still use it. Ask us in the chat or email us with your founder number and we'll send you a direct link to your journal so you can open it in the browser.

On iPhone the banner doesn't appear

Unlock your phone and keep the screen on before holding it near the band. The banner only lasts a few seconds: if it goes, bring your phone close again. If airplane mode is on, turn it off.

The code doesn't arrive

Wait a minute and check spam, promotions or junk mail. Make sure your email is spelt correctly. If it still doesn't arrive, tap “Send me the code” again: the latest one is the one that works.

I made a mistake with my name or my Camino

You can change your name whenever you like in Settings, inside your journal. If you picked the wrong Camino, write to us and we'll fix it.

On the Camino

What if I have no signal?

You can still save photos and notes: they stay on your phone and upload on their own when the signal returns. You just need to have opened your journal once with signal on that phone.

“Near me” and the emergency profile do need a connection.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Your journal opens in the browser. If you want it handy you can add it to your home screen, but you don't have to.

Does it track my location all day?

No. Your location is only read when you open your journal or save something, to know where you are and pin each photo to its place. No background tracking.

Can I use it on someone else's phone?

Your journal is yours: you need your email to get in. If someone else holds their phone near your band, they only see a public screen where they can leave you a message, let you know if they find it and, if you've switched it on, see your emergency profile.

Can it handle rain and showers?

Yes. It's water-resistant silicone and has no battery. Put it on on day one and keep it on until the Obradoiro.

Emergency and privacy

How does the emergency profile work?

It comes switched off. If you want, you add your allergies, your medication and two contacts, and switch it on. If something happens, whoever helps you holds their phone near your band and taps “Emergency information” to see who to call.

It needs signal on the helper's phone. You can switch it off whenever you like.

Who can see my photos and my journal?

Only you. Your journal is private and nobody else sees it, not even someone who holds their phone near your band. Health details in the emergency profile are only saved if you switch them on.

Can I download or delete everything?

Yes. In Settings you can export your whole journal (photos, videos and notes) or delete your account and everything in it.

Arriving and your memory video

How do I get my memory video?

When you arrive, tap “I've arrived in Santiago” on the cover of your journal. Before creating it you can add photos from your gallery that were left out. Then tap “Create my memory video” and we'll email you when it's ready, usually within a few minutes.

What's in the video?

Your photos, your notes, your route on the map, the messages you kept from the people you met, and at the end your days, your kilometres and your photos. Every video is unique.

If you saved videos, they appear in the memory as a still image; the full videos stay in your journal.

Can I use the band on another Camino?

Each band keeps one Camino: it's your keepsake. If you're planning another one, write to us and we'll find the best way together.

Orders, shipping and returns

When will it arrive?

Orders ship within 48 working hours from O Porriño with Correos, with tracking. Delivery in Spain usually takes 2-3 more working days.

Where do you ship?

Shipping is free to mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands. For other destinations, write to us at hola@waymino.com and we'll tell you how we can get it to you.

What if it doesn't fit or I'm not happy?

You have 30 days to return it. It's one size, adjustable from 15 to 21 cm wrist.

I've lost my band or it's broken

Don't worry: your journal isn't stored on the band, it's saved in your account. Write to us and we'll help you carry on.
